NIFTY Option Chain Cheat Sheet

Understand PUT & CALL using OI, Volume & Price Action

🐻
1 Basic Meanings
PUT SIDE (PE)
🛡️
High Put OI = Support Zone
Put OI Increasing = More Put Writing Bullish / Support Forming
Put OI Decreasing = Long Unwinding Bearish / Support Weakening
CALL SIDE (CE)
🛡️
High Call OI = Resistance Zone
Call OI Increasing = More Call Writing Bearish / Resistance Forming
Call OI Decreasing = Short Covering Bullish / Resistance Weakening
? What is What
OI
Existing positions already in the market. Money parked.
Volume
Today's trading activity. Fresh action.
Price
Market direction & strength. The final decision maker.
2 Key Levels
RESISTANCE CE OI High ⛰️
Current price
SUPPORT PE OI High 🛡️
💡 Market = a road: Support is the floor (PE OI High), Resistance is the ceiling (CE OI High). Price moves between them.
3 OI + Price Action — Master Table
Market Movement Call OI Put OI Meaning Interpretation Market View
↗ Price ↑ ↓ Decreasing ↑ Increasing Bullish Strong Short covering in Calls + Put writing 🐂 Bullish
↗ Price ↑ ↑ Increasing ↑ Increasing Bullish but Resistance Forming Call writing at higher levels (Caution) 🐂 Mild Bullish
↘ Price ↓ ↑ Increasing ↓ Decreasing Bearish Strong Call writing + Put unwinding 🐻 Bearish
↘ Price ↓ ↓ Decreasing ↑ Increasing Bearish Losing Strength Support still holding but selling pressure 🐻 Weak Bearish
↔ Price ↔ ↑ Increasing ↑ Increasing Range Bound Both sides writing options (No clear direction) ↔ Neutral / Range
🚀 Price ↑ Strongly ↓ Decreasing Short Covering Rally Traders buying back Calls (Fuel for upmove) 🚀 Strong Bullish
⚠ Price ↓ Strongly ↓ Decreasing Long Unwinding / Support Break Panic selling / Support broken 🔻 Strong Bearish
+V OI + Price + Volume — Full Conviction Read
OI tells you if positions are being added or unwound, Price gives direction, and Volume confirms conviction. All three together = the real story (2 × 2 × 2 = 8 cases).
Price OI Volume Meaning Interpretation Market View
↑ Up ↑ Up ↑ High Long Buildup — Strong Fresh money buying with conviction; trend backed by new longs 🐂 Strong Bullish
↑ Up ↑ Up ↓ Low Long Buildup — Weak Longs added but thin participation — rally lacks fuel 🐂 Mild Bullish
↑ Up ↓ Down ↑ High Short Covering — Strong Bears buying back aggressively; sharp pop, often temporary 🚀 Bullish (temp.)
↑ Up ↓ Down ↓ Low Short Covering — Weak Minor low-conviction bounce; no fresh longs entering ↔ Neutral–Bullish
↓ Down ↑ Up ↑ High Short Buildup — Strong Fresh aggressive shorts with conviction; downtrend intact 🐻 Strong Bearish
↓ Down ↑ Up ↓ Low Short Buildup — Weak Shorts added on light volume — weak follow-through 🐻 Mild Bearish
↓ Down ↓ Down ↑ High Long Unwinding — Strong Longs exiting in force / panic; supply heavy on the tape 🔻 Bearish
↓ Down ↓ Down ↓ Low Long Unwinding — Weak Quiet profit booking; selling pressure fading, may base out ↔ Neutral–Bearish
Rule of thumb: same Price + OI signal, but high volume = conviction (act) and low volume = doubt (wait). Volume never gives direction on its own — it only confirms or weakens what Price & OI already say.
4 Volume Interpretation
High Volume In Price Action What It Means
📊 Call Volume High Price Rising ↑ Call buying OR Short covering (Bullish)
📊 Call Volume High Flat / Sideways ↔ Call writing (Caution / Range)
📊 Call Volume High Price Falling ↓ Call writing (Bearish)
📊 Put Volume High Price Falling ↓ Put buying (Bearish)
📊 Put Volume High Price Rising ↑ Put writing (Bullish / Support)
📊 Put Volume High Flat / Sideways ↔ Put writing (Range Bound)
⭐ High Volume = many contracts traded today. It does NOT tell whether buyers or sellers are stronger.
5 Strike-wise Reading — NIFTY Spot 25,100

Δθ The Option Greeks — What Moves Premium
Greek Measures Typical Range What It Tells You
Δ Delta Premium change per ₹1 move in spot Call 0 → +1 · Put 0 → −1 ≈ Probability of expiring ITM. ATM ≈ 0.5. Hedge ratio — Delta 0.5 means the option moves ₹0.50 for every ₹1 in the underlying.
Γ Gamma Rate of change of Delta per ₹1 move Highest at ATM, near expiry How fast Delta accelerates. High Gamma = premium swings violently → great for buyers on a move, dangerous for sellers near expiry.
θ Theta Premium lost each day (time decay) Always negative for buyers The daily "rent" a buyer pays. Accelerates sharply in the last week. Sellers earn Theta — it's their income.
V Vega Premium change per 1% move in IV Highest ATM, longer expiry Sensitivity to volatility. Rising IV inflates both Calls & Puts (good for buyers); IV crush after events deflates them (good for sellers).
ρ Rho Premium change per 1% move in interest rate Small for short expiries Least important intraday. Higher rates lift Calls, weigh on Puts. Matters mainly for long-dated options.

🟢 Option Buyer

  • Wants big & fast moves — long Gamma
  • Fights the clock — pays Theta daily
  • Wins if IV rises (long Vega)
  • Limited risk (premium), unlimited reward

🔴 Option Seller / Writer

  • Wants flat / slow markets — short Gamma
  • Earns Theta daily (time decay = income)
  • Wins if IV falls (short Vega / IV crush)
  • Limited reward (premium), large risk
Buyer's enemy = Theta (time) · Seller's enemy = Gamma (a sudden move). Near expiry, Theta & Gamma both spike — premiums melt fast but a breakout can explode against writers.

NOT: OI alone → Trade
🎯 Extra Tips
  • Combine OI + Volume + Price for high probability.
  • Don't predict — react to what the market shows.
  • Trade with the trend, not against it.
